Hostal Blau is a charming little village hotel in the equally charming medieval village of Peratallada . Here you can step back through the centuries, in a village devoid of cars, staying in a hotel that is totally at one with its environs.
At the same time, it is both simple and rustic, and charming and warm.
Hostal Blau lies amongst the higgledy-piggledy cobbled streets of the village, just by the castle, a monument to the endeavours of past stonemasons. Carme has created a delightful interior with exposed stone in abundance, rustic plasterwork, frescos and stencilling, all with a welcoming atmosphere that draws you in. She has furnished the hotel throughout with country antiques, assisted by a friend who modestly describes himself as the best and most famous antiquarian in Cataluña!
The six rooms are comfortably furnished, all with antiques, paintings and unique artworks. There is a mix of double beds and twins, some have sitting areas, and the room in the tower has a fantastic private terrace. In all this beauty, a few modern comforts are not forgotten: television, minibar and air conditioning (except in the room where it is never needed). Downstairs, the salon and tea room are places to relax and maybe compare experiences with other guests.
Peratallada is a fascinating village and a good base for exploring the area. It is quite close to the coast, yet set back just far enough to be free of the intense activity of the bigger resorts. A short drive will take you to broad expansive bays or tiny secluded coves. Of course the countryside is also a great place for walking and cycling, with many marked pathways.
Restaurant:
Just breakfasts are served at Hostal Blau, but these are real breakfasts in the Catalan tradition. It is not just the building that looks back to past times: the food too harks back to the times of a tight-knit community. The bread comes from a bakery in La Bisbal, the meats and sausages are prepared in the traditional local style by Josep, the tomatoes come from the "huerto" of Francesc and the jams are specially made, inspired by Carme's early recipes.Hover on a picture to pause the slideshow, click for some bigger photos
A Word From the Owner:
"After many years working in hotels and restaurants, life brought me the good fortune of finding this special place: small, welcoming, totally mediaeval, quiet, relaxing, magical; close to the sea but set back from the hurly-burly of the coast, interesting for tourism, but with a rural spirit. This is the place I made my place of work, and I do it in the best way possible, always open to your suggestions. I hope that everyone who comes into contact with our hotel will feel totally at home."Hotel Amenities:

"It's here in a village of stone and sky, in a palace of blue ceilings and the aroma of apple jam, where the grey inhabitants of the real world become princes for the weekend."
"A very warm welcome awaited us when we arrived at Hostal Blau for our one week’s stay in this very lovely traditional part of Spain.
