Hotel Cal Mestre

A small friendly hotel in Cataluna

Originally designed as a country house in the 16th century, Cal Mestre is the second oldest building in the picturesque hamlet of Les Gunyoles, in the province of Barcelona. Visitors will delight in the spectacular views looking over a valley of vineyards from which the renowned Penedès wine is produced.

Beyond that, there are the unique, rugged peaks of Montserrat. Here there are so many different aspects for you to enjoy: the peace and quiet of the beautiful Catalan countryside, culture, the fascinating city of Barcelona with its outstanding architecture and boulevards, the old Roman city of Tarragona, sports activities, beaches and all the gastronomic delights of Mediterranean cuisine.

Cal Mestre has three guestrooms and a self-catering apartment which is available throughout the year. Each room has its own simple elegance and a stunning view. Comfortable beds ensure a good night´s rest and all rooms are equipped with spacious, modern bathrooms. The apartment is on two separate levels with it's own private entrance. There is room to swim, sunbathe, enjoy the view, read, chat, or simply relax on a variety of terraces or in the gazebo. On cooler evenings, guests are made to feel at home in the comfortable lounge with its cosy fireplace and a small library of books. The recently-installed saunas (one Finnish cabin and one infra-red) in the old bodega are available to guests at a nominal charge.

In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel, the bar is self-service, and if no-one is around, just make a note of your drinks on the pad.

This is an ideal location to visit the dramatic city of Barcelona and yet to return at night to sleep in the tranquility of a peaceful village. To appreciate the quiet atmosphere even more Marian occasionally organises special yoga weekends. Martin and Marian created Cal Mestre as their own little dream-come-true, to fashion a lovely comfortable house that they could share with you.

Restaurant:

There are two good restaurants within walking distance. Furthermore snacks are available at Cal Mestre on request and twice a week dinner is available in true ´table d´hote´ style (= "eating with the family") which all adds to the homely atmosphere of Cal Mestre. Martin and Marian take pride in their large home-cooked breakfasts.

What We Say:

Barcelona is one of the best city breaks in the world, but it is a bit noisy. From Cal Mestre, the centre of Barcelona is within easy reach but you can return to a warm, friendly and restful hotel each evening. The best of both worlds!

Deposit:

A credit card number and a 20% deposit is required to confirm a reservation. In the case of the apartment, the deposit is 50% and the balance is payable one month before arrival.

Cancellations:

Cancellation charges are:
More than 42 days notice: the deposit
28-42 days notice: 35%
21-28 days notice: 40%
14-21 days notice: 50%
5-14 days notice: 75%
1-5 days notice: 90%
Less than 24 hours notice: the full amount.
In the case of the apartment, cancellations with more than a months notice will be charged the depost, and later cancellations the full amount.
