Originally designed as a country house in the 16th century, Cal Mestre is the second oldest building in the picturesque hamlet of Les Gunyoles, in the province of Barcelona. Visitors will delight in the spectacular views looking over a valley of vineyards from which the renowned Penedès wine is produced.
Beyond that, there are the unique, rugged peaks of Montserrat. Here there are so many different aspects for you to enjoy: the peace and quiet of the beautiful Catalan countryside, culture, the fascinating city of Barcelona with its outstanding architecture and boulevards, the old Roman city of Tarragona, sports activities, beaches and all the gastronomic delights of Mediterranean cuisine.
Cal Mestre has five guestrooms, each with its own simple elegance and a stunning view. Comfortable beds ensure a good night´s rest and all rooms are equipped with spacious, modern bathrooms. There is room to swim, sunbathe, enjoy the view, read, chat, or simply relax on a variety of terraces or in the gazebo. On cooler evenings, guests are made to feel at home in the comfortable lounge with its cosy fireplace and a small library of books. The recently-installed saunas (one Finnish cabin and one infra-red) in the old bodega are available to guests at a nominal charge.
In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel, the bar is self-service, and if no-one is around, just make a note of your drinks on the pad.
This is an ideal location to visit the dramatic city of Barcelona and yet to return at night to sleep in the tranquility of a peaceful village. Martin and Marian created Cal Mestre as their own little dream-come-true, to create a lovely comfortable house that they could share.
Restaurant:
There isn't a restaurant as such, but meals are available on request, in true "table d'hote" style (= "eating with the family") which all adds to the homely atmosphere of Cal Mestre. Martin and Marian take pride in their large home-cooked breakfasts.A Word From the Owner:
"In and around Cal Mestre there's a bit for everyone: Barcelona at hand, Tarragona, sports activities, beaches, cava and wine tasting, gastronomy. When you simply want to rest and relax, we welcome our guests back to a natural haven of peace and quiet with friendly hospitality and service."Hover on a picture to pause the slideshow, click for a bigger photo

What We Say:
Barcelona is one of the best city breaks in the world, but it is a bit noisy. From Cal Mestre, the centre of Barcelona is within easy reach but you can return to a warm, friendly and restful hotel each evening. The best of both worlds!Customer Feedback:
"We were the first American guests at this lovely, newly renovated B&B. Martin and Marian were extraordinarily welcoming....in multiple languages! They've maintained the historic ambience of this property but updated it beautifully - glorious bathrooms, contemporary bedrooms, beautiful pool, patio, porches. They were welcoming, well-informed, and warm hosts. My son, his girlfriend, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit."
"Warm service, lovely people, and sitting down to dinner with the owners is a charming idea."
"I wanted to say how truly welcoming Marian and Martin are. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I felt as though I was at home." D.W.
"What a perfect place to spend our last two days in Spain! Our room was ideal, comfortable and so very well maintained. Marian and Martin were so very accommodating. They welcomed us and made us feel at home. As an additional bonus, we were able to arrange having dinner with our host and hostess and other guests. Martin is a very good chef and accommodated our special dietary needs. The evenings spent at Cal Mestre were an opportunity to get to know the innkeepers and share experiences with other guests. We would highly recommend Cal Mestre as a place to stay in a lovely small Spanish village overlooking the vineyards of the Penedes region." R.S.C.
