El Alamo Dos (or "2 Poplars") is a Spanish Casa Rural tucked away down in the valley near the lovely little village of Velez Blanco, a truly away-from-it-all spot in the mountains of Almeria. This is a place of breathtaking scenery, clear fresh air and the ultimate in relaxation.

The guesthouse is the brainchild of Marilyn and Trevor, who have put their hearts and souls into the stylish conversion of their little old cortijo (a traditional farmhouse) into a comfortable pied-a-terre for visitors seeking out a different kind of holiday. There are five large double bedrooms, all en suite of course, four with double beds and one with twin beds. Each bedroom has an individual designer style and is decorated with beautiful colour co-ordinated furnishings. Downstairs, there is a large dining hall linked to the kitchen so that it gives a real modern twist to the traditional farmhouse feel, and lets guests enjoy the anticipation of Marilyn's cooking as well as the actuality. The room above is a large lounge, elegantly furnished, including some interesting hand-decorated pieces.

Alamo Dos is surrounded by a large garden planted with lots of indigenous varieties, and with an extensive terrace for sunbathing and relaxing. There is a jacuzzi here, and a swimming pool too. The outdoor bar, christened the Sunflower Bar, is a great place for settling down for a quiet drink in the evening, or any other time too, really.

Velez Blanco is a beautiful village dominated by an even more beautiful castle. The whole area is remote and spectacular, yet conveniently accessed by motorway. This is a region for every sort of nature-lover, from dedicated walkers and bird watchers to anyone who just wants to take an easy stroll in lovely surroundings.

Dining:

Guests have a choice of bed and breakfast or half-board. Marilyn is an enthusiastic cook who prepares her meals according to the preferences and dietary needs of her guests. Wherever possible, she uses only locally produced fresh fruit, vegetables and meat.

There are also numerous special culinary events during the course of the year: medieval banquets (medieval dress is optional!), Tex-Mex, international cuisine, Indian. The list goes on.

"Trevor had a very successful career as an electronics engineer whilst Marilyn was a lecturer in management within the NHS. At different points in our lives we decided that there had to be a better way…and headed for the warmer climes of Southern Spain. Come and join us for a while! "

Cancellations:

Cancellations must be received in writing (fax or e-mail) at least 30 days before scheduled arrival. In this event, the deposit is non-refundable. For cancellation with less than 30 days notice and the full amount has been paid, the refund will be 50%.
