Since the 17th century the building that is today the Hotel Salinas de Imon has been the most significant building in Imon. A large stone manor house, it boasts massive walls in a mixture of ashlar and rubble stone. The transformation into an intimate little hotel has been done with the utmost respect for the original structure, so that the restoration has taken away nothing from the underlying character of this unique building and has made the fullest use of the original rooms and the numerous artefactsHotel Salinas de Imon that Jaime discovered during the renovation.

Inside, the decoration is truly classic and the restoration team firmly resisted any temptation to be drawn into a rustic theme that would be inappropriate for a gentleman's house. The quality of the furniture and works of art carries right through into the fabric of the décor. On the top floor there is a library which leads on to an exterior patio and a garden. One of the staircases up to some of the guestrooms has a unique painted ceiling.

Choosing a room here is like choosing which dream to dream. Carlos III, for instance, is the actual room in which the former king once spent the night (allegedly). China will whisk you away to the Orient. El Palomar, in one of the two towers, is a romantic room especially for lovers. The Music room is decorated with old music scores.

The recently opened spa is a special feature of the hotel. It offers a massive range of facilities such as thermal baths, special showers, steam bath, Finnish sauna, gym, numerous massages and other treatments. (Click for more info.)

The village of Imon, with only 40 or 50 inhabitants, is the site of a Roman salt mine, one of the most important in Spain in times past. Today it is recognised as a place of special archaeological importance and is a must-see for tourists and historians alike. At the centre of the village is a magnificent renaissance church from the 15th century while just outside, the Llano de las Simas, with its virgin oak forest, offers walkers spectacular views of the salinas, especially at evening time.

Restaurant:

The La Sal restaurant is in the village, just a little apart from the hotel. You can enjoy dinners of traditional Castillian cuisine (Sunday to Thursday inclusive). Breakfast is served in the hotel and lunchtime snacks are also available during the summer months. There is another restaurant in the village which is open on the nights when La Sal is not.

What We Say:

We are very impressed by the restoration carried out by Jaime and his family. The rustic exterior leads to a refined and elegant interior full of quality decorations and antiques. The addition of the swimming pool and spa will encourage guests to spend more time in the hotel itself as well as enjoying its surroundings. Excellent value.

Customer Feedback:

"In the heart of Spain, an island of salt, full of charm and the best service. Thank you."

"We wanted to see parts of Spain tourists don't normally visit. The welcome we received at both hotels was excellent and the meals were worth the journey. We took the opportunity to drive on many minor roads and found the experience was amazing.....We both feel that we have had a brief glimpse of the real Spain." M.B.
