Mas Ferran is a traditional Catalan nineteenth century farmhouse (a “Masía”) which once belonged to the Mas Ros de Vilaplana estate. Today it is owned by Ferran Tomas who has renovated it and opened it as a country hotel.

The grounds extend to about 12 acres, resting on a plateau a few kilometres from Girona. This excellent position offers magnificent views of Girona cathedral, the Empordá valley and the Montseny Natural Park. Here you will find a large swimming pool with expansive terraces and lawns, a tennis court and gym, and woods of pine and evergreen oak.

Around the masía there are more terraces for relaxing, sunbathing or taking a drink, and inside there is a bar and lounge. The bodega is much more than just a place to store wine, being fully renovated with original stone vaulting, and tables where you can sit to sample the products. There is also a well that is original to the farmhouse, a full 80 metres deep.

The accommodation comprises 12 guestrooms, including a suite and 2 Superior double rooms. All the rooms are decorated on pure modern lines softened by the inclusion of colonial furnishings and decorations, and rustic features of the original house. Facilities include satellite television and internet access, and the bathrooms are totally stylishly modern. The hotel is generally accessible for disabled guests.

In a stone building alongside the hotel, there is a centre for natural therapies, where guests can enjoy homeopathic treatments, acupuncture, massage, reflexology and beauty treatments.

All this lies in an area of great natural beauty, yet with convenient communications and close to the sea and the mountains.

Restaurant:

The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor dining, according to the season, with an a la carte menu specialising in Mediterranean cuisine.

I'm not normally one for name-dropping, but this time, "Why not!". In June 2006, their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Asturias (Spanish equivalent of the Prince of Wales) and Princess Leticia stayed at Mas Ferran. Well, if it's good enough for them,..............

Cancellations:

Cancellation must be received in writing (fax or e-mail) no later than 48 hours before arrival (low season) or 72 hours before arrival (high season). Later cancellations and no-shows will will be charged for one night (low season) or 50% of the booking (high season).
