La Casa de Pasarón is truly a family house: when it was built in 1890 it belonged to the great-great-grandparents of the present owners. Now, since 1998, it has been carefully restored and turned into a little hotel. Fronting onto a tiny village street, it nevertheless enjoys superb views across the countryside and mountains.
Visitors enter into an impressive hall with a rose window and and a granite staircase leading to the first floor. Beneath the vaulted ceilings of the ground floor there is a comfortable lounge ideal for a quiet read or a long chat, and also the dining room where you can enjoy delicious home cooking of dishes typical of the region. Outside there is a garden terrace with superb views, where breakfast and dinner can be served in summer. The swimming pool has a large terrace and lawn, and walnut, fig and cherry trees provide comfortable green surroundings to repose in peace and contemplation.
The first floor has 8 double rooms, each with twin beds, telephone, television, heating and an en-suite bathroom. The rooms are simply furnished with the products of local craftsmen, but warm and welcoming. The second floor has four larger rooms with beamed attic ceilings, double beds, air-conditioning and all the same comforts of those below. A third bed can be added if required. The roof windows up here draw your eyes to the stars, which are especially bright and twinkling due to the clear air of Extremadura and the lack of light pollution.
This is a charming hotel, at once welcoming, comfortable, quiet and homely. It's beautifully placed for touring the relatively unknown area of Extremadura. There are historic villages, the Yuste Monastery, the Jerte valley renowned for the cherry blossom, the city of Plasencia and the National Park of Monfrague which is of special interest for birdwatchers.
Restaurant:
The dining room has a vaulted ceiling reflecting all the history of the house. Alternatively, both breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed on the terrace. This is a real opportunity to enjoy regional home-cooking. The meals are based on old family recipes, made from the freshest local ingredients, and might typically include tomato soup with grapes, country chicken, goat stew and sweet figs.Hover on a picture to pause the slideshow, click for some bigger photos

What We Say:
"Real Spain" and "best-kept secret" are desperately overworked phrases but we think they can genuinely be applied to this area. And Casa De Pasarón is a delightful little hotel from which to explore the beauties that Extremadura has to offer. Truly a historic family house.Customer Feedback:
"Both the village and the hotel are charming."
"The Ayala family are so friendly. They told us all about the area and offered good advice on places to visit."
"The food is lovingly prepared."
" Rest in absolute tranquility."
"We wanted to see parts of Spain tourists don't normally visit. The welcome we received at both hotels was excellent and the meals were worth the journey. We took the opportunity to drive on many minor roads and found the experience was amazing.....We both feel that we have had a brief glimpse of the real Spain." M.B.
