La Serena is a distinctive small hotel in Altea’s old town. Originating as a three-storey gentleman’s town house, it has ten bedrooms including a Master Suite, an excellent restaurant, a Turkish bath-spa and an ample sunny terrace with swimming pool. This peaceful position up on the hill overlooking the sea is exemplified by the complete absence of televisions within the hotel. (Well, you don’t want to spend your holiday watching television, do you?)

A special feature within La Serena is the Hammam, the luxurious spa where you can indulge yourself with a Turkish bath, but you do need to book in advance.

Each room is designed with soft muted colours that accentuate the textures of the walls, floors and furnishings. Typical Spanish architectural features like the beamed ceilings and stone walls have been integrated into an innovative contemporary style and pieces of furniture designed and made especially for the hotel. All rooms have an en-suite shower except the Master Suite which has a large bathtub. Most rooms have a south-west aspect and views down to the Mediterranean, two have their own terraces, and the remainder look out onto a quiet street of whitewashed houses and leafy patios.

Altea is a historic Mediterranean town, which has given great importance to the restoration and conservation of its old quarter. Originally a centre of fishing and farming, Altea is one of the loveliest towns along the southern Costa Blanca, retaining all its character and avoiding the mistakes of some of its neighbours. Guests of La Serena can enjoy a quiet amble through the narrow streets, down to the seafront “paseo” then while away some hours in the shops, bars, restaurants and marina that face onto the sea.

Restaurant:

The seasonal menu in the restaurant varies from light salads to traditional dishes and innovative creations. Desserts are freshly prepared. In the summer, dinner is also available on the poolside terrace as well as in the main restaurant. Samples from the menu, depending on the time of year, might include salad of sweetbreads and baby beans, leek and courgette lasagne on a pancake base, monkfish and lobster casserole or fillet steak with foie.

Cancellations:

Cancellations must be received in writing (fax or e-mail) by the hotel. For cancellations with at least 10 days notice, the charge is 10% of the booking. For cancellations at less than 10 days notice the charge is 50% of the booking. Early departures and no-shows are charged the full amount.
